Parent Bulletin No.9
Dear Parent / Carer
Amidst the backdrop of the World Cup, our own students have also been involved in several competitions this week. Our Y8 Football team won away at Ysgol Clywedog 0-7 to secure a place in the last round of the North East Wales football cup. Our Year 7 and 8 netball team played their first match against Castell Alun yesterday. Although they were not victorious there were some excellent performances and more importantly, they all enjoyed the experience. Our Public Speaking Team who are the reigning Welsh champions narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Welsh final last night. Although they must be disappointed they gave an excellent account of themselves and will continue to develop their skills working with students from other schools in the area coaching them on their speaking skills.
To mark Wales v Iran in the World Cup students were encouraged to wear red today and given the opportunity to watch the match with their fellow students. Although the result was not what we would have wished, I hope students will remember the occasion. It might be another 64 years before we qualify again! The more observant of you may have noticed the similarity between our motto (“Succeeding Together”)and the Welsh FA (“Together Stronger”). Win or lose, triumph or defeat I hope our students continue to work together.
Public Speaking at Argoed
On Thursday, as part of the Seren project which is designed to give opportunities and challenges to the most able students across Wrexham and Flintshire we hosted a Speaking and Debating event. This was led by our own Public Speaking Team who coached and taught the techniques needed to be successful and then organised a friendly debate between the visiting schools. We had very positive feedback from all who attended on the confidence and ability of our students and we look forward to holding similar events throughout the year.
Thank you to all those families who have supported the Flintshire Foodbank Appeal. It was great to see how generous our community is. The boxes have been sent off today and I am sure they will be much appreciated.
Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day
Advance notice. It is the Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day on 8th December. We will also be serving Christmas Dinner for students on that day.
Mock Exams
Advance notice for Year 11 Mock Exams week commencing the 5th December. Students have been given support and advice on how to prepare for these mock exams, also, we would very much appreciate your support in encouraging students to prepare for these.
