Parent Bulletin No.6
Dear Parent/Carer
Today is the end of our longest half term, but I am pleased to say it has been a very successful one. We welcomed a record number of parents and prospective pupils to our Open Evening; launched a Facebook page, Y10 successfully completed a Dragon’s Den and our Drama Team performed the amazing show Matilda to record audiences. I am pleased to announce that construction of our new school begins next week. There is further info on how this might affect drop offs and pick-ups below.
School Drop Offs and Pick Ups
With construction of the new school commencing next week there will be reduced parking on site, and in the drop off zone outside our main entrance. The drop off zone is to be reserved for school transport and taxis. Visitors to school should also park here and then report to reception. Where possible, I would encourage students to travel to school on foot or cycle. If parents must drop and collect by car please use the back gate. Additional parking is available at the Argoed Sports Club.
ParentPay and Payments to School
After half term we will become a “Cashless School”. This means that we will no longer be accepting cash and ask for all parents to use ParentPay. If this is a concern or you have a query then please contact the school office to discuss.
Students Receive Outstanding Volunteering Contribution Award
Three of our students, Alexander McLean, year 11, Niamh Howes-Patterson, year 9, and Josh Farley, year 10, have received the Tom Jones Award for Outstanding Contribution to volunteering at Caffi Isa in Mynydd Isa. Helping each week, with a variety of tasks from stocking the counter and fridges, cleaning tables, and washing dishes to using the coffee machine and till to serve customers. These students are excellent role models to younger children in the community and are excellent ambassadors for school. Well done!
Breakfast and Homework Club
Breakfast club is available from 8:15am every morning and we also offer a homework club after school until 4pm every day. Should you wish for your child to attend either then please book them in via reception or email homeworkclub@argoedhs.co.uk.
I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween and a pleasant half term. Please note that students are in school on Monday November 7. I know many Flintshire schools are shut for staff training on that day but we are open as normal.
Yours faithfully
Mr P Smith
Headteacher
