Parent Bulletin No.31

Dear Parent/Carer

I would like to start this week’s newsletter with an update on our Public Speaking Team.

They travelled to Cambridge University last weekend to compete in the UK Grand Final.  This is a prestigious event, attended by some of the highest performing schools in England. Unfortunately, the Team were not victorious this time with a fourth place finish, but the students had a fantastic experience, visiting one of the best universities in the world and putting their skills to the test against some of the brightest students in the country.  What is exciting, is our team came from Year 10 while many of their competitors were Year 11; this bodes well for next year.

Can I just say how proud the whole school community is of Amy Laird, Alex McLean and Jessica Evans. A big thank you also to Mr Lofts for supporting them and Mrs Smith and Mrs Edwards for accompanying them to Cambridge.

Year 11 GCSE Examinations

GCSE Exams start in earnest this Monday with many exams taking place over the next two weeks. Students have been given guidance on how to prepare for these and what they will need to do for each exam. Please remind them to come to every exam prepared with the correct equipment, in uniform and they must follow the exam board’s rules regarding phones and watches.

If you require further information then please contact our Exams Officer, Mrs Christine Exford christine.exford@argoedhs.co.uk or on 01352 756414. If your child is unable to attend an exam then you must contact Mrs Exford urgently before the exam starts.

Feedback from Parents

I will be sending out some surveys shortly inviting you to give us your views on School. Please try and find time to return them as I will be using the information you provide to shape our provision at school. I will also be seeking the views of your children to ensure we are always striving for improvement at Argoed.
