I hope everyone has had a pleasant week. There are a few important announcements in today’s newsletter for you to note.
Bryn Rd Roadworks
I have been informed today that Scottish Power are carrying out repairs on Bryn Rd, up the hill from the school gate. The road will be closed for up to one week which is going to cause disruption for any cars trying to come to school from Chambers Lane or New Brighton. If possible please encourage your children to walk or cycle to school otherwise you will have to plan an alternative route.
Key Stage 4 Student Absence
Can I remind parents that we do not approve leave or holidays in Years 10 or 11. This is due to the ongoing assessments throughout this time towards their GCSEs. We have had a couple of examples recently of students missing vital practical exams due to being on holiday. This potentially will jeopardise their GCSE outcomes. Please support us and keep in contact with your child’s Head of Year if pupils are going to miss school.
Year 11 Exam Timetables
Year 11 have been issued exam timetables this week. If your child has not had a copy or you need further info on this crucial time then please contact Mrs Thomas, our Exam Officer.
PSE Day
Students took part in another curriculum enrichment day with the theme of “Our Future”. Sessions were delivered by a mixture of school staff and external presenters. Students in the upper school took part in mock interviews to help prepare them for their futures and our guests from industry complimented them on their mature attitudes.
Vapes
Sadly, a small number of our students are bringing vapes into school. This is of utmost concern as not only is it illegal, we do not know the long-term health effects of these. Furthermore, we have been told by Trading Standards that there are counterfeit vapes being sold with potentially harmful substances inside them. In order to safeguard our students and stamp out this issue we will be sending home any student found to have a vape in school. Parents will need to collect them from school immediately. I trust that you will support us in this serious matter. A more detailed letter will be sent out alongside this newsletter.
