@ArgoedHS

An incredibly huge thank you to Laura Heywood @scentedgarden for this humongous donation of books to the school library. Lots of very popular authors and titles that will soon be reserved I’m sure. We are extremely grateful for your very generous continued support❤️📚⭐️@ArgoedHS

Parent Bulletin No. 2

Dear Parent/Carer

Year 7 and Key Stage 4 pupils have returned to school this week. Pupils have responded to the changes and restrictions in place positively and maturely.  It is vital that all students co-operate fully with our new rules to ensure the safety of all of us.

On Monday we welcome Year 8 and 9 pupils back to school. After reviewing our plan this week we have made some slight alterations to our start and finish times to minimise congestion and the mixing of year groups. Please check the times below.

There are many changes and restrictions in place at school to minimise the risk of Covid-19. If you have missed any information then copies of letters are on our website.

A few things to note are:

Start and end of the school day

Pupils should not come onto the site more than 10 minutes before their start time. If you need to drop your child off earlier than this then please book them into breakfast club by phoning school before noon the previous day. Parents cannot come past the gate but there are staff on the yard to meet and accompany pupils if needed. If you come by car can I ask you remain in your car when waiting to drop or collect your child. If you are walking to meet your child then please remember to maintain 2m social distance from other people.

Communication

Visitors to school are not permitted without a prior appointment. Staff will communicate with families via email or a phone call. If we do not have your email address then please provide one urgently. Reports and other communications will be shared using SIMS Parent App. If you have not downloaded it yet then please do so. If you need support with this then please contact us.

Food and dining arrangements

The school dining room is serving food but families are welcome to provide packed lunches if they prefer. There is a new snack bar serving cold food, snacks and drinks on the yard also. Students are not permitted to leave the site at lunchtime. If this is an issue please contact your child’s Progress Leader to discuss. Food is served in a “grab and go” format and will be consumed either on the yard or in bad weather in their form base.  Please pay for this via ParentPay.  If you have not been able to set up an account for Year 7 yet then money will be accepted next week but your child must notify their form tutor during morning reg. If you need support in setting up a ParentPay account please contact our admin team.

Homework, Online Learning and Mobile Phones

We will be supplementing our classroom based learning with assignments on Microsoft Teams. Can you support this by reminding your child to install the app on their phone.  If pupils were unable to attend school this is how we would maintain our learning also.  I have shared a powerpoint giving more information on this. We have altered our mobile phone policy to allow their use in lessons if it supports learning. Listening to music, texting or use of social media is still not allowed and may result in the phone being confiscated.

Face Coverings

They are still optional at school despite the change in Welsh Government policy from Monday.

I hope you all have a pleasant weekend and I look forward to welcoming Year 8 and 9 next week.

Best wishes
