Parent Bulletin No.2
Dear Parent/Carer
I hope you have had a pleasant week. To mark the death of Queen Elizabeth staff have delivered activities within lessons and form time. KS3 have been set an assignment to write an acrostic poem remembering the Queen inspired by the poet laureate, Simon Armitage. We hope to display some of these at school and during the Open Evening.
Argoed Open Evening 2022-23
We are opening our school up to prospective students and their parents on Thursday September 29 from 6:30pm. This will be the first time since 2019 that we have been able to hold this event in person. This will be a chance for families to tour the school, speak to staff and students, and to sample some interactive lessons. It is a great chance for us to showcase all that we do at Argoed and should help families make their mind up as to which High School will best fit their child. Please pass this onto any families you think will be interested.

Year 10 Information Evening for Parents
There will be a presentation from Mr Goodson, Mr Lofts and myself this Thursday September 22nd for parents of Year 10. This will give parents key information on our GCSE programme and how we can all support students as they work towards their GCSE exams. This will be a virtual event and parents will receive an invite via Microsoft Teams.
Year 7 CATs Tests, Wednesday September 21st
Year 7 will be sitting CATs tests this Wednesday in place of their usual lessons. Students cannot prepare or revise for these and they are nothing to worry about. They do provide us as a school useful information on students learning potential and assist in our monitoring of pupil progress.
Breakfast and Homework Club
Breakfast club is available from 8:15 every morning and we also offer a homework club after school until 4pm every day. Should you wish for your child to attend either then please book them in via reception or email homeworkclub@argoedhs.co.uk.
Finally, can I please ask parents not to arrive at school without a prior appointment. It is often not possible for staff to meet at that time due to their teaching commitments or other prior engagements. Please email or phone staff in the first instance to try and resolve any issues.
School is closed on Monday to mark the Queen’s funeral. I hope you all enjoy the extended weekend.
Yours faithfully
Mr P Smith
Headteacher
