Parent Bulletin No. 14

Dear Parent/Carer

Thank you for your support and understanding this week. After making the difficult decision to switch to distance learning on Wednesday the government have now sent out a directive instructing all secondary schools in Wales to close today on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer. At least we were able to give you slightly more notice and while some of you may be frustrated with this, it is done with the safety and wellbeing of our community in mind.

Can I emphasize that this is not an early Christmas holiday. Lessons will continue as normal next week via the internet. Children should remain in their own homes and follow the rules and do all they can to minimise their contact with others.

Distance Learning

Distance lessons will be delivered via Microsoft Teams They do not need a computer but a smartphone will suffice providing it can access Office 365. We have checked with our students if they needed to lend a device and have done so with those who have requested this. If you require support with devices then please contact Mr Moreton our IT Manager. Students will not need cameras or microphones for their lessons. Questions and interactive dialogue will take place using other features within the Teams platform.

On our new website you will find guidance on distance learning, including tutorials on how to access work via Microsoft Teams. We are also currently updating our subjects page to include links and resources to support learning. I would strongly recommend you follow us @argoedhs on Twitter where we will also post updates.

Students are to follow their usual timetable and next week will be week 1. For example, if your child has Maths period 1 on Monday they will have a live Maths lesson. If their timetable states that they then have Science period 2 they will then have a live lesson with their Science teacher at that time. In order to facilitate the extra time it may take to log in and out of sessions we have altered our timings slightly as follows:

Lesson start and finish times:

Lesson 1 09.10 am 10:00 am

Lesson 2 10:10 am 11.00 am

Break 11.00 am 11.20 am

Lesson 3 11.20 am 12.10 pm

Lunch 12.10 pm 01.00 pm

Lesson 4 01.00 pm 01.50 pm

Lesson 5 02.00 pm 02.50 pm

It is your responsibility to ensure your child participates in these lessons and completes the work set. Teachers will take a class register and you will be notified by

the school office if your child has not joined their lesson. All our staff will be in school next week so if you have any concerns then please contact us.

Any child who receives Free School Meals will have their credit sent directly to your bank account.

Pupils are expected back in School on Tuesday January 5th. There are rumours circulating that there might be another fire break in Wales during that week. To date we have not received any information regarding this and plan to welcome our pupils back into school that week. Should there be any change we will notify you through our usual channels.

This has been an extraordinary year, but I am optimistic for what 2021 may bring us. I hope our students and yourselves have an enjoyable Christmas and I look forward to working with you all in the new year.

Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!
