I hope you have had a pleasant week. Thank you to everyone who donated towards our poppy appeal this week. Like most things these days our Remembrance Day was very different to usual but we did mark the day with a virtual assembly and a two-minute silence. If you would like to donate then please send it in with your child on Monday or via ParentPay.
2021 GCSEs
The Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams announced on Tuesday that there would be no GCSE exams this summer. What is not clear yet is how students will be assessed and when in order to award their final GCSE grade. We are hoping to receive further information regarding this from Welsh Government before Christmas. As the grades are likely to be based on a combination of coursework, school assessments and external tests it is vital that students are giving their best effort in all pieces of work. They will not be able to leave it until May and then revise round the clock for two weeks. Rather, grades will be abased on their overall achievement and progress.
Drop off and pick up at school
Due to the traffic lights outside our main entrance and the ongoing works we are experiencing some congestion issues at the start and end of the day. Where possible I would encourage students to walk or cycle to school and can I remind all families that pupils should not arrive at school more than ten minutes before their start time unless they are attending breakfast club.
Breakfast and Homework Club
Please be advised that we run a ‘Breakfast Club’ and a ‘Homework Club’ each day at the Argoed High School.
Breakfast Club runs each day, Monday to Friday from 8:10 – 8:45
Homework Club runs each day, Monday to Thursday from 3:10 to 4:00 and on a Friday 3:10 – 3:45
Booking into both these clubs is necessary. We need to be sure that if you are sending your child to us, that we know to expect them. Without booking them in, they will not be included on our register and therefore may no longer be in school.

What to do if your child or a member of your household develops symptoms
Please do not send them into school if you suspect they are ill. If a child develops symptoms whilst at school they will be isolated, checked by a first aider and parents called to collect. They are not allowed to return to school until they receive a negative test or until after they have been in isolation for 10 days. Can you please forward negative tests to school via email. If you suspect any member of your household has Covid then do not send your child to school until they have had a test.
