Parent Bulletin No. 1
Dear Parent / Carer,
Hello, and welcome back to a new academic year. It has been lovely to welcome our new Year 7s into Argoed this week and it has been pleasing to see the look of anxiety and nervousness on their faces on Thursday morning change to confident and happy smiles. I hope they have a good weekend and look forward to lessons next week.
There are many changes and restrictions in place at school to minimise the risk of Covid-19. I shared our procedures in a communication last week. If you have missed any information then copies of letters are on our website.
A few things to note are:
Start and end of the school day
Pupils should not come onto the site more than 10 minutes before their start time. If you need to drop your child off earlier than this then please book them into breakfast club by phoning school before noon the previous day. Parents cannot come past the gate but there are staff on the yard to meet and accompany pupils if needed. If you come by car can I ask you remain in your car when waiting to drop or collect your child. If you are walking to meet your child then please remember to maintain 2m social distance from other people.
Visitors to school are not permitted without a prior appointment. Staff will communicate with families via email or a phone call. If we do not have your email address then please provide one urgently. Reports and other communications will be shared using SIMS Parent App. If you have not downloaded it yet then please do so. If you need support with this then please contact us.
Food and dining arrangements
The school dining room is serving food but families are welcome to provide packed lunches if they prefer. Students are not permitted to leave the site at lunchtime. If this is an issue please contact your child’s Progress Leader to discuss. Food is served in a “grab and go” format and will be consumed either on the yard or in bad weather in their form base. Please pay for this via ParentPay. If you have not been able to set up an account for Year 7 yet then money will be accepted next week but your child must notify their form tutor during morning reg. If you need support in setting up a ParentPay account please contact our admin team.
Year 7 will commence their usual timetable next week and should arrive at school for an 8:50 start by going through their allocated door and then making their way to their classroom base.
Year 8 and 9
Year 8 and 9 students will return to school on Monday September 14th for an 8:50 start. They are to enter the building via their designated door, sanitise hands and then go to their classroom. For next week we have set them a skills-based project to practise their literacy, numeracy and other key skills in preparation for their return to school-based learning. They will be given an induction session on their first morning to make sure they understand the changes to school routines.
Year 10 will return to school on Wednesday September 9th for a 9:10am start. They are to enter the building via their designated door, sanitise hands and then go to their classroom. Year 10 will not have a form period in the morning but will start with lesson 1. They will be given an induction session on Wednesday morning to make sure they understand the changes to school routines.
Year 11 will return to school on Monday September 7th for a 9:10am start. They are to enter the building via their designated door, sanitise hands and then go to their classroom. Year 11 will not have a form period in the morning but will start with lesson 1. They will be given an induction session during the morning to make sure they understand the changes to school routines.
I look forward to welcoming back all our students over the next few days and working with them, and yourselves to have a successful year.
