An incredibly huge thank you to Laura Heywood @scentedgarden for this humongous donation of books to the school library. Lots of very popular authors and titles that will soon be reserved I’m sure. We are extremely grateful for your very generous continued support❤️📚⭐️@ArgoedHS

Parent Bulletin No. 4

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope you have had a pleasant week. Our staff and pupils continue to adapt and respond positively to our new way of working.  Many staff have commented on how well our new Year 7’s have transitioned into Argoed and how much they are enjoying teaching them.

We are currently developing a new website which should improve our communication with yourselves and the wider community during these difficult times.  On Monday we have got a videographer coming in to take stills and films of school.  If possible please send your child in full uniform for that day.  Also, if you do not wish your child’s image to be used in our website or prospectus please let us know.

I have left the information from last week below to make it easier for you to check start times and what to do if anyone in your household has symptoms.

Start and end of the school day

Pupils should not come onto the site more than 10 minutes before their start time. If you need to drop your child off earlier than this then please book them into breakfast club by phoning school before noon the previous day. Parents cannot come past the gate but there are staff on the yard to meet and accompany pupils if needed. If you come by car can I ask you remain in your car when waiting to drop or collect your child. If you are walking to meet your child then please remember to maintain 2m social distance from other people.

What to do if your child or a member of your household develops symptoms

Please do not send them into school if you suspect they are ill. If a child develops symptoms whilst at school they will be isolated, checked by a first aider and parents called to collect. They are not allowed to return to school until they receive a negative test or until after they have been in isolation for 10 days. Can you please forward negative tests to school via email. If you suspect any member of your household has Covid then do not send your child to school until they have had a test.

Should your child need to self-isolate due to confirmed or suspected Covid-19cases, we will be providing online work via Microsoft teams. Students have access to this either as an app on their phone or via desktop. Online work will be set via the governments Oak Academy website which will deliver a recorded online lesson on the topics that they are missing at school. The links to the lesson will be sent as an assignment on the teams App for each day of absence. Students simply log on to teams and look for their year group home-learning app. These will be called Home-learning year 7/ home-learning year 8/ home-learning year 9/ home-learning year 10/ home-learning year 11. They will then see the assignment and link to the online lesson.

Students will also receive the link to the work via their email. This system will also be available for other periods of illness and exclusions. If students require extension work beyond what had been set on teams they can access the following websites and search for the topic they are missing:

GCSE pod consists of mini 5 minute podcasts that students can stream, make notes on and , in the case of English, Maths and Science quiz on. Students will need the following username and login to access the site, either on the GCSE pod app or from a PC online.

Twigworld (Science revision)

Please let us know if you have any difficulty accessing work on any of these sites.

Visitors to school are not permitted without a prior appointment. Staff will communicate with families via email or a phone call. If we do not have your email address then please provide one urgently. Reports and other communications will be shared using SIMS Parent App. If you have not downloaded it yet then please do so. If you need support with this then please contact us.

Open Evening and Prospective Parents

Under the current guidelines we will not be able to hold an Open Evening or arrange days for parents to visit. Instead we will be updating our website to include a virtual

tour and provide all the information you need to help make your choice of secondary school. This should be ready in the next couple of weeks.

Food and dining arrangements

The school dining room is serving food but families are welcome to provide packed lunches if they prefer. There is a new snack bar serving cold food, snacks and drinks on the yard also. Students are not permitted to leave the site at lunchtime. If this is an issue please contact your child’s Progress Leader to discuss. Food is served in a “grab and go” format and will be consumed either on the yard or in bad weather in their form base. Please pay for this via ParentPay. If you have not been able to set up an account for Year 7 yet then money will be accepted next week but your child must notify their form tutor during morning reg. If you need support in setting up a ParentPay account please contact our admin team.
