As the Spring term comes to a close we have lots of student (and staff) achievements to share, with some photos below.
Can I remind parents that students return to school on Tuesday the 18th April; although staff are running revision sessions over the holidays for Year 11. Further information has been sent out as a separate communication via SchoolComms.
Girls Football
Our Year 7 and 8 Girls Team entered a Flintshire tournament this week. The girls played in their new kit, sponsored by Macron and finished the day undefeated, winning or drawing all their games. Well done girls!
School Gymnastics Team
Students from Years 7,8,9 and 10 entered the Flintshire Floor and Vault competition this week. There were three levels to the competition (Bronze, Silver and Gold) and our students took medals for their tumbles, vaults and overall placings at all three levels. Well done folks and thank you to Miss Wellington for training you.
Year 10 Talk the Talk Workshop
Some students in Year 10 spent Thursday developing their communication skills, particularly focusing on how to perform well at interviews. Talk the Talk are an external organisation who specialise in developing the essential skills of speaking and communicating. The instructor commented on the positive attitude of our students and the quality of their interviews. I hope this will prove useful as they move towards work and possible college interviews in the future.
Book Vending Machine to celebrate students reading successes
We opened our book vending machine this week. This will form part of our rewards system to recognise those students who make excellent progress in their reading. Can I pay a big thank you to one of our Governors, Mrs Heywood for donating the machine and to Councillor Mared Eastwood for joining us for the opening ceremony.
Students’ Behaviour in the Community and Safe Use of Mobile Phones
I would like to make you aware of worrying behaviours that are emerging amongst some year groups, particularly across Year 7. Over the past week or so, many pupils have been encouraging others to fight or threatening them with being ‘jumped’ by other pupils. This has resulted in arranged fights taking place. We are extremely disappointed in this, as this is not in keeping with the culture and ethos we endeavour to create. In order to combat this, any pupil known to be actively encouraging others to fight will be given the same sanction as if they were fighting themselves. Year 7 had an assembly this morning to make this clear to all pupils.
As a school, we are working hard to eliminate this behaviour and we hope that we have your support in this matter.
Could I also remind parents to be vigilant around mobile phone use. There have been a number of cases of pupils befriending or being befriended by pupils in other schools. There have also been incidents of pupils posting inappropriate images and sharing these across their groups. This has mainly been happening on ‘What’s App’ but could apply to any platform. All pupils have been reminded about appropriate use of mobile phones, online safety and the dangers of having contact with strangers online. There will be further awareness sessions during the year.
School Support Worker Receives Prestigious Award
We always celebrate student achievements and this week I am delighted to share the success of one of our Teaching Assistants, Mrs Roberts who has received the award for Support Worker of the Year at the Evening Leader Awards ceremony. Well done Mrs Roberts and thank you for all that you do for our students.
I hope everyone has a lovely Easter break and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday the 18th April.
