Parent Bulletin No.5

Dear Parent/Carer

It has been a busy week at school with the performance of our production Matilda. There are approximately 70 students involved in the show and this week they have put on 9 shows for a variety of audiences, including our local primary schools. We have received amazing feedback from those lucky enough to get a ticket. On behalf of our whole school community I would like to thank and congratulate our students, and of course Mrs Pritchard and her team for staging a memorable show. We are incredibly proud and lucky to have this talent and commitment in our students.

E-Ysgol

Welsh Government have launched a programme of online revision sessions for GCSE students in Maths, English and Science. These will be a valuable tool to top up on what we are doing at school. They are free to all students and delivered via Microsoft Teams. Please visit www.e-sgol.cymru to see further details. Students can either access the session live or watch a recording.

Book Vending Machine

One of our Parent Governors, Mrs Heywood has kindly purchased a book vending machine for us and we hope to receive it next week. This works just like a normal vending machine but instead of dispensing snacks or drinks, it dispenses books. This will be an excellent addition to support our culture of reading at Argoed. We will work with our students to decide how best to use it but it is likely to form part of our rewards system. There will be a cake sale at school next Wednesday to raise money to purchase books to go into it. Students may wish to bring some money in on that day to purchase a cake.

Welsh Water Support

In response to the cost of living increases, Welsh Water are offering support to families who qualify for Free School Meals. Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter for further information.

Breakfast and Homework Club

Breakfast club is available from 8:15 every morning and we also offer a homework club after school until 4pm every day. Should you wish for your child to attend either then please book them in via reception or email homeworkclub@argoedhs.co.uk.

School closes for half term next Friday and we open for students on Monday, 7th November. Have a good weekend everyone.

Yours faithfully

Mr P Smith
