Parent Bulletin No. 27

Dear Parent/Carer

I will start this newsletter with some fantastic news.

Our Public Speaking Team were crowned Welsh Champions earlier this week. This is an amazing achievement and the whole school are incredibly proud of them. The students involved only began debating and speaking this year and their progress and improvement have been outstanding. They will now go on to Cambridge University where they will compete for the overall UK title. Well done Alex, Amy and Jessica!

Developing Students’ Oracy and Communication Skills

Some Year 10 students took part in a workshop titled “TalktheTalk” on Monday. This was designed to improve their confidence at speaking and will benefit students in a variety of situations, such as interviews or giving presentations. The trainer nominated Isabelle Eaton, Jorja Brown and George Davies for outstanding oracy awards. Well done!

Update on Self-Isolation

Welsh Government have updated their guidance from Monday to state that you do not have to legally self-isolate following a positive COVID test. However, as a school we need to ensure that reasonable measures are in place to reduce the spread of the virus. This could have a very detrimental effect on students taking exams this year. Therefore, we are asking all members of our school who test positive to isolate. They can return to school after 6 days if they have two negative lateral flow tests or after 10 days.

Vaccination Information

Attached to this newsletter is some information regarding MMR vaccination from NHS Wales that I have been asked to share.

Dinner Money

Please ensure that students have got credit on their account before they try to purchase items from the dining facilities. In emergencies, credit can be given so no one goes hungry, but it does cause issues at the tills. Any student who receives free school meals the allowance has increased to £2.75 per day from today.
