Parent Bulletin No.6

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope you and your family are well and looking forward to a pleasant weekend, please find below the latest information from school.

Updated Guidance on Lateral Flow Device Tests (LFDs)

Welsh Government have changed the guidance for secondary school pupils who have a household member who has tested positive for COVID-19. In addition to PCR tests on day 2 and day 8 they should also undertake lateral flow tests every day for seven days. This should start on the day a household member is confirmed positive from a lateral flow test or PCR test result. If you require any more LFD kits then ask your child to collect them from school office at break or lunch time. The link below will take you to the full statement from the Minister.

Year 10 STEM Event

Last Friday, Year 10 engineering and product design pupils began the Cynefin Cymru project (STEM engagement project) with WEPco and the Royal Institute of British Architects. The pupils have been set the task to design, plan and build models for a new town that represents the local area and heritage. The project also involves working in collaboration with pupils from Ysgol Mynydd Isa.

The pupils spent the day with two local architects, learning about the role of the architect and the considerations needed when planning a town. Pupils will go on to make model buildings and create a 3D model town with the work from Ysgol Mynydd Isa. Pupils really enjoyed the day and were genuinely interested to learn about local Welsh architecture, and architecture as a career. Well done to all pupils involved, your attitude and effort were exemplary.

Virtual Open Evening and Prospectus

We have launched our virtual open evening video and latest prospectus. You may see flyers around the community with QR codes on to access these or they can be viewed by visiting the school website. Please share with any parents you know who are considering which school to send their child to. They may be of interest to current parents also as you can see many of our students taking part in school activities and their views on Argoed.

Extra-curricular Activites

I am pleased to report that many clubs are now running both after school and during the lunch break and Mrs Pritchard has been holding auditions for this year’s Drama Production. Please see the attached programme for further information and times.

I hope you all have a pleasant weekend.

Yours faithfully

Mr P Smith
